Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a challenging year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Presently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first trophy after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court after March of the previous year.

Victory also means Medvedev has won 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

His defensive play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play positively, reinforced by an better serve.

He fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.

He rescued 4 early opportunities in a close final set before the Russian broke to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
