A person who spiked sweets with sedative and provided them to children at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two children who were nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and a grown-up became sick at the facility in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a youth camp which he operated.
The defendant played a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She told the court the man had played this game with the children "over an extended period", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about the activities, for good reason.
"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."
The legal counsel said items including lubricant, ointment and injection devices were located, and his family member alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She said the defendant went on to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the next day.
"The police had not gone out by that time," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the incident.
The legal representative explained the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson contacted the authorities again.
She stated the defendant then played the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
