Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in power within the city.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, striking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as important members in House Halovar could assist the party enter locations they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
- The strong figure and Wicander defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the traitor.
